New From Equal Exchange for 2012: Organic Fair Trade Easter Chocolates
WEST BRIDGEWATER, MA―March 5, 2012
Equal Exchange has long been a trusted source for tasty organic Fair Trade foods and beverages, but this year they are introducing their first-ever Easter-themed chocolates. These delicious, bite-sized chocolates are made in Switzerland, and beautifully packaged, making them perfect for Easter baskets or gifts.
Each 3.2 oz box contains 20 individually-wrapped dark chocolate “minis” (55% cacao content) made with dual-certified Fair Trade and organic ingredients sourced from small-scale farmers, including: cacao from the Dominican Republic and Peru, cane sugar from Paraguay, and pure vanilla from Madagascar. The chocolates are kosher, vegan, gluten-free, and soy-free.
After Halloween, Easter is the second most important occasion for chocolate sales, and each year Americans consume over 70 million pounds of chocolate the week leading up to Easter. However, much less than 1% of that chocolate is fairly traded, which Equal Exchange seeks to change.
“Consumers have clearly embraced Fair Trade, but usually cannot find organic or Fair Trade chocolates for special occasions. By launching new products like our Easter box we can help satisfy that demand, and in the process deliver more benefits back to our farmer partners around the world.” ~ Rob Everts, President, Equal Exchange
Equal Exchange helped pioneer the Fair Trade food and beverage categories over 25 years ago. Their Fair Trade practices help to support co-operatives of organic, small-scale family farmers, ensure higher, more stable prices for their crops, and the economic opportunities they need to build a better future for their families and communities. These practices also help to fight the scourge of forced child labor that continues to plague the world’s cocoa trade.
To promote the new Easter chocolates Equal Exchange is holding a chocolate sweepstakes giveaway. Between March 12th and March 23rd customers and other visitors to their Facebook page may enter to win a free box.
The Easter boxes will be available starting March 5th and for as long as supplies last.
The SRP is $6.99. Individuals may purchase the Easter boxes directly from Equal Exchange’s online store for $6.99 or $69.90 for a case of ten.
